How to Make these 4 years worht it

OK so its been ages since i posted here, and most probably i wont post for a long while after this as well, couple of things
1) I don't do content writing , i am horrible at it
2) My Spellings are completely effed up and so is my Grammar , so don't complain about how poor the English of this Post was

This post will be a little SEECS oriented
Anyways so This post is for everyone out there that got Admission in NUST or any other University. All through out your life you would have heard "University Life is great" , "University Life main bohat Shugal Hota hai" , "You learn a lot and get to do A lot in University Life"
All of this is true , but only if you want it to be. University life gives you a lot of opportunities , from Societies to events, Competitions , sports to name a few
Now its up to you if you want to avail these opportunities or not.
The thing is i know people in my class who sit and say "NUST boring hai yar , kuch hota he nahee hai yahan par"
And when Some Event is taking place like Sports Gala , they are in their hostel sleeping

What i am trying to say is , There is a lot to do in NUST , but you have to take the initiative , For me the past 2 years have been great , I have done a lot , Acting in drama , Playing for my House in Sports Gala , Organizing an International Event , Spending hours in the market shopping for items to Give a touch of Morocco to our class for Global Village.

The fact is University life can either be dull , or be exciting , its up to you . You can sit in your hostel and play DOTA all day and night or actually go out and take part in University Activities. The best way to do this is by joining societies. In your first 2 weeks in SEECS different Societies will set up their Recruitment stalls in the lobby , You can get more information about these clubs and societies and an opportunity to join them
Joining these societies will not only give you an opportunity to take part in different events , but also to meet new people . Half the people i know in SEECS and in other school of NUST are through some event or society. This really helps you grow your social circle which will prove very beneficial in your professional life.
Plus trust me organizing events is damn fun , You will start off small . The first event i was part was SEECS Open Day , and all i did was take pictures with the utterly horrible camera SEECS own, but by the end of the year i was one of the lead organizer of SEECS Open House which is one of the biggest event of SEECS.
And yes i brag a lot :P

Anyways my point is , You have 4 years in University (hopefully not more ) Make them count , take part in events , be part of societies , play sports , take part in contests and competitions , coz these are things that make University Life Memorable

When i look back over the past year my most memorable moments have to be the Global Village , Dramafest and Sports Gala
And 90% of my class did not even take part in any of these 3 events.

University is not about just studying and scoring a good GPA , you have to learn a lot more . And these events provide the perfect opportunity for you to polish your management and soft skills and it helps you stand out, meet new people , get to work with professionals, meet entrepreneurs . A lot of benefits,

And in the end these are the days you will remember, These activities make your days in NUST memorable.
So dont just sit and waste 4 years , go out there , join a society , volunteer for an event , spend hour standing ushering a crowd. Yes it starts small and with hectic task but it gets better and at the end of it all , its worth it

Now for SEECS student , Here is my take on which Society you should Join and Why
Youth Entrepreneurs Society(YES):
This Society is Affiliated with TiE and has industrial linkages. They are comparatively an active society in SEECS and hold workshops . I joined them in First year but was never active , something i always regret
NUST Science Society
This is the biggest Student Society in NUST and the most organized, Get in early since getting promoted in NSS is hard. But remember NSS demands a lot of your time , they hold a lot of events and require full time commitment , I was appointed as Director Media but was later sacked since i could not give proper time to the society
Student Governing Association (SGA)
There are rumors that SGA will get dissolved this year , lets hope they are not true. If you want to be part of events that take place in SEECS you should join SGA , you get to work a lot and learn a lot , all of major SEECS events (welcome party , Open Day , Open House , Orientation Day , Week of Welcome , batch Parade) are organized by SGA. You get to work with SEECS administration and faculty
NUST Adventure Club
This is a must join Club , by being their member you can take part in all their events which include hiking trips , trip to shooting range and other awesome activities

Emm that should be about it
Welcome to NUST , Hope you have a great time

So we Meet Again After A Year

It’s funny how a year ago I set up this blog to share my University Life. But soon I realized that my English pretty much sucks, I am not funny and no one read my blogs :P . But today almost after a year from my Last entry I was on the other side of the desk. Last entry was about my Orientation Day and first week and now I write after I just helped organize the Orientation Day for the 2012 batch of SEECS. Something funny happened today. During the tour around the campus we had arranged for the freshman badge, I mentioned how the administration of NUST was much more co-operative as compared to the Administration of UET Lahore. A Freshie over heard me and came over to ask was I the one who wrote the blogs NUST GEEK and UET GEEK . I was pretty much dumbstruck , could it be , could I actually have a guanine reader (all my order readers are my friend whom I forced to read my blogs :P). Well anyways knowing somewhere out there someone actually reads my blog I had to write a new entry. So this entry is basically about how I spent my past year.
Throughout my School life I participated in every extracurricular activity I could , Skits , speeches , dramas , science exhibition But during my 2 year stay at Fauji Foundation College and a year at UET Lahore I didn’t get much opportunities to take part in such events. When I joined SEECS I decide I would try to avail every opportunity I got. I entered SEECS pretty much as a nobody. Over the year I have done a lot. Started off by being part of The Organizing team For the National Workshop on research conducted by NUST Science Society. Then I was part of the Organizing Team for Open Day. After that I again help organize the National Symposium Conducted by NUST Science Society. I got selected in a foreign exchange program to study a semester at Arkansas University in USA (did not go since I had to bear my own living expenses which after discussion with a few people I realized is not worth it since the university isn’t all that good and I am better off studying at NUST instead of spending around 1 lakh Rupees per month on accommodation and other items) and finally at the end of my second Semester I was one of the lead Organizers of SEECS Open House that displayed over 150 projects, had over 200 guests and 300 students. Getting so much exposure in just my first year helped me learn a lot. Secondly I learned that Here in NUST if you work hard you will get rewarded for it. I joined SEECS just as a regular Student and joined NUST Science Society as a regular Member. After a year of being part of different events I was able to be selected as the Sophomore Batch President in SEECS and was appointed the new Media Manager for NUST Science Society. Now most of you will be cussing me thinking I am a self-centered Jerk who is busy gloating about what I have achieved over the year , and maybe I am coz my sis always told me I was an over conceited jerk , but the main point I wanted to share is that what I learned is that NUST offers you a lot of opportunities. It all depends on you , Either you can sit around all day doing nothing or spending all your time in the Library studying , or you can avail these opportunities because trust me these activities are what makes University life worth it .
So well this was just a small entry about what I have been up to over the past year. I will try and keep updating the blog , hope I get a nice positive response this time around.
If you read this please leave a comment so I can know if anyone is reading the garbage I put up on blogspot and share it on facebook aswell 

Finnaly .. A Real University

Just a lil noet
This was suppose to be a good post with some solid points but i have been busy and couldent post it earlier and now i have like 3 entries stacked up that i have to write so i am doing this one quickly . Its 3 am and my brain isent working at its full potential so please cope with the low quality

So its been 2 weeks since i joined SEECS NUST . I had spent a year in UET studying Mechanical Engineering before i got admission in SEECS NUST. Now when a person has been to 2 different institutions he unintentionally compares them . Due to me always comparing NUST with UET people in my class named me UET Promoter. But i cant help it , i jumped from a university i never wanted to go to , to the University of my Dream .
So one might think how were my first 2 weeks at NUST. Jumping from one of the oldest and most reputed Pakistan University to The Highest Ranked newly developed Institute
Well when i entered into NUST and walked up the stairs as i made my way to SEECS i had this feeling in pit of my stomach , happiness , joy , excitement .. Darn it i was excited bout going to School for the first time in my life . As i entered SEECS i knew i was at the right place. The main entry door leads u to the lobby , that is full of comfy black couches and a good 40 inch (i think ) LCD to welcome you . As i walked into the Hall way leading to my class i had a cold whiff of air hit me as the air conditioner was doing its job well . Spending a year in UET where fans were the best we cud get it was a great feeling to be standing in a cold corridor. So i looked for my class and entered . It was a large class , had rows of desks along with chairs , a small stage for the teacher to stand on with a rostrum and a wide white board. So thats like the usual stuff you find in any institute . What Differentiated NUST from UET was that our class had its own projector , so did every other class . In UET we had to get projector from the English department if we ever needed it which was a pain in the ass, more over the seats actually had foam on em , no more hard wooden chairs that wud make our butts numb.
So these were materialistic differences , of course NUST has a better infrastructure and furniture since they demand a higher fee, But what really set NUST apart is the whole feel , FOR THE FIRST TIME I FELT I WAS IN A UNIVERSITY I cant describe it , The over all feel, the vast campus , the impressive buildings , the amazing structure it all just adds up to give u that amazing feel

On my Very First day i was Lucky enough to have a 1 hour Lecture form Mr Majid Maqbool who is teaching us Fundamental of ICT. And i was blown away , At that time i was sure NUST is the place i have always wanted to be at . Because for the first time i was attending a proper informative lecture. Not the usual class a teacher takes where he comes and delivers a halfhearted lecture from a book and goes away. This was an actual intellectual lecture , where he would make us feel part of the class and we weren't their just to take notes for a future exam but actually to learn something. It was a 1 hour lecture that flew away in what seemed like a matter of minutes.
We were being taught with slides on projector , Only our Calculus Professor wrote on the board , And since the slides were available to us online we didnt have to take any notes hence we could focus all our attention on what the teacher had to say.
As Days passed my love for this great institute grew. We were being taught at a conceptual level , in non of the classes were we following any books , We are being taught the basics of each subject . Teachers paying extra emphasis on procedure of solving a problem and not on particular examples or questions.
Beside the studies there were plenty of other little things that made the experience so great. Different Clubs and Societies of NUST had arranged stalls to get new members registered. To Attract freshmen they used different tactics, Some brought in an Xbox 360 with kinect and hooked it up with the LCD for students to play at small price ( like 30 cents) . Others had stalls of pizza and Other food items and the earning they made went to charity (NUST Community Service Club) while some were selling their societies T Shirts.

Over all i would say its been a great experience so far , From Beautiful Campus to an excellent Teaching Staff. The Societies and Other fun Activities to sports Try Out . Everything just makes you feel like your actually in a proper International Standard University. This is Just the Begging of my Journey at NUST . I hope the 4 years i spend here are as awsome as the first 2 weeks .

Orientation At SEECS

So on 24th September 2011 we had our Orientation at SEECS. Last year when i joined UET there was no Orientation , well maybe i missed it coz i joined a week late due to problems with hostel accommodations, so i was really looking forward to it . My sis who was in AMC said that her orientation day sucked. They had to sit outside in one of the grounds and just get there registration done
So i was confused . Will this be boring and the only thing em going for is to get my registration or will there actually be some more arranged for us . Since i had been suffering from minute Dengue Fever i was kinda weak and still recovering so that made me think twice of going to the orientation thinking will it be even worth it
Well gladly i chose to go. So i left home at around 8 and reached around 9 . We got our schedule and were directed to sit in a class . Where i met a couple of students who are going to be sharing the class with me for the next 4 years (if i dont fail :P ) . So here i was sitting in a air conditioned class which was slowly filling up . It was quite impressive , While we were seated a guy came up on the stage/platform and gave us a small presentation on SEECS and the Study Style of the University . With all due respect to him , he really needs to work on his communication skills , his Presentation was quite boring and his way of explaining wasn't the best. After that a Thin energetic guy sprung up to the stage and started his presentation on LMS . He seemed a lil hyperactive as he paced his way through a very informative presentation in less then 2 mins . His presentation could have been a whole lot better if he had taken a bit more time on it.
After this the process of registration started, Hostilities were proffered over Day Scholars since they also had to get their Hostel Registration done. So there i was sitting bored when another Representative came in and told us that they are going to be taking us for the tour of the School . So we formed 2 queues and followed 3 representatives as they took us around the school showing us every corner of it . It was a great experience seeing the well furnished and build campus . Centrally Air Conditioned , well kept , well maintained , as clean as it can get . I who had spent a year in UET was used to stairs that had stains of mud on em and walls that had gone from white to greyish black and generally buildings that seemed to lack care was quite happy to see such a well kept campus . There were plenty of labs which were locked at the moment , The library was large and beautifully decorated. Over all it was a campus where u wouldn't mind spending the rest of ur life.
After the tour ended we were once again taken to the class. Where we got our Library and ITC forms. I submitted my ITC form and got my Username and Password for LMS and SEECS Email account though after reaching home i tried logging into my LMS but it didnt work :S. After that we were taken to the seminar hall where we were Addressed by The Principal of Seecs Dr Arshad (A guy my Dad always speaks highly off) and the HOD of Computing Department who was a PHD and hardly seems to be in his early 30s . From what my dad told me he had completed his PHD by the age of 25 which is freaking amazing since em 19 and still doing my bachelors. It was around a 40 mins address and after it we were led to our classes again where the processes of registration continued. Since i had to leave ASAP coz my dad needed the car at home so i got my self registered. It was quiet amazing to see it hardly took them 5 mins to register me. After that i went out sat in my car and went home as my head started hurting during the way . i reached home crashed on my bed and slept for a good 3-4 hours.

Now this was the Small review of the events of the orientation . Personally i think it was great . Seeing how in UET getting a single piece of paper signed take 2 days the way the orientation was handled was quite a pleasant surprise . it was all smooth , organized , worked out , planned and swift . Even though it was carried out by Students it had a very professional approach.
So that was my first Day at SEECS. Em gonna be joining the classes soon (depends on my health) and will be posting more. Our First week is week of welcome starting with a gig by the Music Society NUST which i will most probably sadly miss coz i still need a lil more rest

Anyways Thanx for reading

Schol of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences NUST

Well So i got into NUST School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences in course of BESE i.e Bachelors in Software Engineering . So now i am going to give a little detail about SEECS. Most of the Stuff will be copied of Internet and this is just a little Intro About SEECS from what i have herd and read and not my own personal Experience about it .
SEECS started as NIIT (NUST Institute of Information Technology) in a rented House in Chaklala Scheme 3 Rawalpindi. With time they grew and rented more houses and their strength increased. I Remember living in Askari 2 which was close to Scheme 3 and coming over to scheme 3 commercial area (where NIIT Hostels were situated) and seeing NUSTIANS roaming around eating Chacahy Kay Anda Shami Burger. From there they moved up to there own Building in NUST's new H12 campus and got a new name of SEECS .

Now a lil Copy Paste from Wikipedia :P

NUST School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (NUST-SEECS) (Formerly: NUST Institute of Information Technology) is located at H-12 Islamabad, Federal, Pakistan. NUST-SEECS was launched on self-finance basis in April 1999 as a constituent college of National University of Science and Technology (NUST). NUST-SEECS was formed as a result of the IT boom that gripped the country, the increase in demand for quality IT education and the requirement for NUST to launch its own IT department.National University of Sciences and Technology has been instrumental in strengthening academic-cum-industrial liaison with Microsoft, USA to come to Pakistan and help in promoting the local IT industry. Microsoft has awarded NUST the status of Authorized Academic Training Program Institute (AATPI), eventually becoming a role model for peer academia in the field of high-level information technology education in Pakistan.

NUST-SEECS has established a strong technology partnership with Intel. Intel has very recently established a laboratory at the SEECS campus to orientate the students with latest technology trends in computing. Visiting Intel experts deliver lectures on emerging technologies at NUST-SEECS on regular basis.

University has established links with several software companies in the IT area. There has been tremendous effort that has resulted in corporate liaison with companies and universities abroad. On international level, Associate of Computing Machinery (ACM), USA has established its local students chapter to promote academic growth.

NUST-SEECS has been awarded the status of "Associate Research Institute" of CERN, the European center of Nuclear Research Geneva, Switzerland. Since 2000, NUST-SEECS has been working on collaborative on distributed computing problems relating to GRID problems with CERN. Dr. Arshad Ali (Director NUST-SEECS) toured CERN Switzerland and recent visit of Prof. McClatchy's recent visit to NUST was a part of this remarkable effort.

NUST and SLI Canada have agreed to jointly undertake a project to develop and implement a model distance learning solution for Pakistan. Its First outcome is Data Communication and Security (grad course).

So this is just a lil Basic Info Bout NUST SEECS . I will Be Posting More personal Experience as My Classes start . Hope you will be coming back for more

A Geek's Life Story

So here i am . Making my First Blog Entry , The First Entry into my Diary of my life in NUST . Its been a long Journey . From Playgroup at Kings School to SEECS NUST. It wasnt the easiest of journey but then again life aint easy
So this is Just an Introductory Post . I will give a lil background info bout myself and how i made it to SEECS and what you can expect in this Blog
So where To beggin
I was born in Family where both my parents worked hard to provide me and my siblings the best life they can . My dad was serving in army and mom Used to teach primary classes. They did their best to provide us with the Best education they could afford. By the time i made it to 8th grade i started thinking about my future . What i wanted to be what field should i choose . Since my Dad was an Army officer i was always drawn towards the uniform and thought of it as my goal in life . But somewhere along the way i changed my decision. My uncle is a Software Engineer who studied abroad and owns his own software house . He inspired me a lot , i loved what he used to do and would ask him to teach me how to make websites . All he ever told me was to go look for a software called MS Front Page and learn it yourself . So i did that during my Summer Vacation and wolla my first website was up and running , it was a small website i made , it had jokes , funny pictures , optical illusions and stuff . Em sure no one except me ever visited this website but at that point i knew what i wanted to do . By the Time i was studying in 9th my Dad had been Posted to NUST . Since my father was in NUST i learned alot about it . These were those days when their Head office used to be in Lal Kurti with There Business school across the streat , AMC EME AND MCS being their major schools and Seecs was known as NIIT and was running in rented houses in Chaklala Scheme 3.
As time passed and NUST started gaining International acclaim i started getting fond of it. by the time i was in FSC all i wanted was to get into NUST . I dont know why but i had this strong Love for NUST , when ever there would be a debate about which is the best University of Pakistan i would fight for NUST with such passion that it seemed i owned it
I was an over all good student through out my academic life . I had secured good marks both in Matric and FSC-1 . So now came the big question , What field should i opt for , Personally i wanted to go for software engineering . But my Dad who had been serving in NUST for a while now (he retired while posted in NUST and got a Job in NUST after retirement ) My dad and i had a long discussion about what my preferences should be and well what we decided at the end of the day was to go for mechanical on top followed by mechatronix and software. It was the safer choice
So well i started preparing for the entry test. I didn't join any academy or anything . I just Worked real hard studying around 6-8 hours a day in home for like 2 months making sure i was fully prepared to get into the University of My Dreams . Finally the Big day came . NUST entry Test i was tense all night , couldn't sleep much . Next morning there i was in the examination hall taking the test that would define my future . English was ok , Chemistry was easy Physics was really easy but maths .. God .. i didn't know half the math part. Well after doing what i knew and guessing the remaining i walked out laughing thinking all those hours spend studying wasted . We had a flight to Malaysia 2 days after the test for a family trip so i was off to have the best 15 days of my life with my family . I remember i was sitting in my hotel room in Langkawi Island in Malaysia in morning when i picked up my dads cell to see that he had recieved a message from his co-worker informing that NUST had officially announced the result . My heart skipped a beat , and then it started beating faster than it had ever beaten before. I pulled out my sisters laptop connected to the NUST website and checked my Result
3516
I was shocked , i had tears in my eyes , all my dreams shattered , All my hard work ruined , i felt like some one had just stepped on me and then wiped me off a door mat and then burned the door mat . It was painful , really painful , specially seeing all these tourist around u happy and having a great time . The next 2 days were the worst of my life , I had just found out that i would not be going to the university of my dreams and then i got stung by a jelly fish and had to spend like 3 hours on a hospital bed. After that i decided that it was no use crying over spilt milk and decided to enjoy the remaining days of my vacation . When we got back to Pakistan i applied for UET since i had not applied for anyother university coz NUST was the only one i wanted to go . Luckily UET had to postpone its entry test due to the flood and i had chance to take the test. I took the test with half interest and to my surprise i actually got in . Mechanical Engineering UET LAHORE. One of UET LAHORE'S most reputed discipline .
I wont go into much details about my stay in UET , for That you can read my blog UET GEEK. Well so after 2 semester of studying Mechanical i realized that i hated it . I hated its core subject , i didnt find any interest in it except thermodynamics . It was painful to study , even though i was getting good grades i was not enjoying my studies . We were Taught C++ in our second Semester and i loved it , Programming was great fun for me and thats when i realized that i should have gone for what i love and not for what is the safer option. So when i came back for summer vacation i applied for NUST again this time keeping SE as my top preference. Well i studied a little , cudent study much , hated seeing those FSC books again . And took the Test ,. This time surprisingly i did great . So i was happy , we had a tripped planned for SWAT after the test. So this time i was in Bahrain , Swat when i got the bad news that the test had been canceled (it seems like everytime em on vacation enjoying i get a bad news :S )
i was shattered , I had finally done great on my test and had hopes of getting in but now it was taken away from me again , it was painful , i wanted to find the guy who leaked the entry test and beat the living shits out of him. But well what you cant cure u gotta endure. I came back and decided this time i am going to take the test without studying a word
So there i was sitting at home thinking that i might have to go back to UET when i got a text from my Friend "Oi kia bana NUST ka" and i was like "Result agia ??" . I switched on my laptop and opened NUST website , punched in my roll Number and what i saw was beautiful
1012
I couldn't believe it . After all this time , My Dream had finally came true. I had made it into NUST. It was a great feeling . I had tears in my eyes , tears of joy. After i told my mom and gave her a big hug i layed down the prayer mat and offered 2 Nafil of Shukranay and then i lifted my hands in prayer and tears started pouring out of my eye as i Thanked Allah Almighty for making my dream come true . Some of you might think i am being over emotional but Getting into NUST was like my life's goal and after not making in last year i felt defeated. But here i was victorious . Standing tall , And all i could think was lyrics of this song i am going to quote
I look up to the sky
and now the world is mine
I've known it all my life
I made it, I made it!
I used to dream about, the life I'm living now
I know that there's no doubt
I made it, I made it!

I know it was a long Read but well its a long story and i wrote it in the best way i can, I am not a writer and i know my spellings sux and em not the best when it comes to grammar either but since i have alot of time on my hand and i got nothing better to do so i waste my time on such stuff.
Hope you like the first Post . I will try and make More Posts as time goes by. Posts about my daily life in NUST , i will try my best to make them humorous so they are not boring. Hope i will get a positive response .
